Gossip Girl Season 3 Episode 13 ‘The Hurt Locket’ Recap

031010 1000 GossipGirlS1 Gossip Girl Season 3 Episode 13 The Hurt Locket RecapIt seems like a season ago when we last saw our favorite Upper Eastsiders, no? The last new episode aired on December 7, which was three months ago! That’s as long as we have to wait between a season finale and a season premiere!!! Our patience will be rewarded with ten consecutive weeks of fresh episodes!

‘The Debarted’ may have aired a lifetime ago, and if you missed the recap at the beginning of the episode, you may not remember much of what happened. Well, maybe except that jaw-dropping moment near the end where Chuck finds an unidentified woman at Bart’s grave. Is she his mother?

Before I give my two cents about the episode, let’s tackle the title, shall we? ‘Gossip Girl’ titles are always plays on movies. This time is no different. But what a coincidence that the episode titled ‘The Hurt Locket’ airs the day after ‘The Hurt Locker’ won the Oscar for best movie! Talk about coincidence, eh?

Chuck, Blair and the Mysterious Woman

Let’s deal with the question of the week, shall we? Is Elizabeth Chuck’s mother or not? Well, from the locket we saw at the end of the episode, she could very well be. For sure, she has something to hide and it has to do with the Bass family. She could very well be Chuck’s mother; as Chuck pointed out, Bart had a lot of secrets and this could be one of them.

Then again, Elizabeth could be one of Bart’s girlfriends. She got pregnant around the same time Chuck’s mother got pregnant, and when both delivered around the same time, Bart had to hide his child with Elizabeth so not to have the affair and baby come out in the press, etc. Meaning that Chuck could have a half brother hiding somewhere. What’s your theory on Elizabeth? Is she the mother or not? And if not, who is she? Share your theories in comments below.

What I loved about Chuck’s storyline this week is the fact that Blair stood by her man even if it meant not being able to climb up the social ladder. Throwing away her chance to meet with the French man is a huge statement from Blair. It definitely shows that she loves Chuck and is willing to do a lot for him.

Serena and Nate

I’m glad Serena and Nate are back together, especially since it will mean less whining and stupidities from Serena. They need to stop listening to advice from Dan and Blair, though!

Jenny and Damien

It’s clear that Jenny will get, once again, in deep trouble. The fact that Damien quickly ditched Jenny for Serena makes me believe that when trouble arrives, Damien will find a way to put all the blame on Damien. How could the son of an ambassador deal drugs? Plus, won’t he have some sort of diplomatic immunity? Poor Jenny, if she only knew the demon that is Damien! Sadly, she’ll surely discover it too late.

Rufus and Lily

I’m NOT liking where this is going. Writers, if you are reading this, step away from Rufus and Lily and let them be in love and in peace! Worse is that it looks like Rufus may cheat on Lily! That is so unlike Rufus, and it’s not a pretty sight! Argh!

I hope Jenny crashes and burns soon so that Rufus and Lily can work together and rekindle their love while trying to save Jenny from Damien’s bad dealings.

Dan

Who cares about Dan anymore? Boring! I’m starting to think he should be written off. You?

The state dinner

A lot of shows try to have characters and guest stars speak other languages and, sadly, the scenes are botched because of bad pronunciation and wording. I still have nightmares of that ‘Alias’ episode where a French bad guy asks for “la pistole” when it should have been “le pistolet.”

Well, the French-Canadian that I am is pleased to say that the French spoken in this week’s episode was pretty good, except for Violet, who didn’t have the proper accent. The guy who introduced the Ambassador and his daughter was spot on, and Canadian Kevin Zegers, who plays Damien, spoke perfect French with a French-Canadian accent. Bravo ‘Gossip Girl’ for hiring the proper people to speak the language and having them say the right words. I’m wiling to give a pass on Violet’s accent on the fact that she may have studied abroad and lost her French accent. Language rant over. Thanks for reading!
