If you thought the Upper East Siders of Gossip Girl were privileged before, this takes it to another level entirely. Joanna Garcia, star of The CW’s Privileged (which was just canned), has joined Gossip Girl as a love interest for Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford).
She will first appear in the September 14 premiere of Gossip Girl’s third season.
And you thought Nate Archibald was privileged before.
Sources confirm that Joanna Garcia, star of The CW’s axed-too-soon Privileged, has booked a four-episode arc on Gossip Girl as a love interest for Chace Crawford’s affluent alter ego.
Garcia will play Bree Buckley, an irreverent, slightly evil Miss America-type who hails from a conservative Southern family. She’ll first appear in the Sept. 14 season premiere.
Props to The CW for knowing a good thing when they see it!

It’s senior year for our beloved Upper East Siders, and the drama is at an all-time high. Applying for college is only one small part of the story, as new romances (and some not-so-new romances) bloom and fade, scandals erupt at every turn and alliances shift even faster than Gossip Girl can send an update. Families and reputations are destroyed and made; so are fortunes. And even the strongest friendships are tested. In this sizzling season two, you never know what’s next for Serena, Blair, Dan, Nate, Jenny, Chuck and Vanessa. Good thing Gossip Girl is always there to provide us with the latest, juiciest info!
The series is from College Hill Pictures, Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Paramount Television Inc. Gossip Girl is based upon the popular series of young-adult novels by Cecily von Ziegesar. While New York City private schools are upset about Bravo’s new docu-drama, NYC Prep, which premieres tomorrow, some of the show’s cast members are also upset about being compared to Gossip Girl.
It’s actually hard to draw a thin line between these two shows. After all, NYC Prep, even though it’s billed as a reality series, is still a program that’s intended for good TV and will likely expose some of the scandalous lives of wealthy teenagers at an elite prep school on New York City’s Upper East Side— the exact premise of the CW teen drama. However, Jessie, one of the cast members of NYC Prep, detests the association.
“I hate that show!” Jessie shouts at a saleslady who has made the mistake of identifying the outfit she’s trying on as “like Gossip Girl.”
And why wouldn’t she? Gossip Girl might as well be a finely edited version of her own life and that of her friends. Plus, the show films on her block and features her favorite hangout spots.
Meanwhile, the similarities don’t end there. The L.A. Times has somehow compared Jessie to Blair while other cast members of NYC Prep have been put side by side to their Gossip Girl counterparts: PC is definitely Chuck, Sebastian is Nate, Taylor is Jenny, Camille is other parts of Blair with some Nelly thrown in, and Kelli is probably Penelope or Hazel. The show has no real-life version of Serena and not surprisingly, NYP Prep doesn’t have a Dan or a Vanessa either.
If you want to get to know these kids better, check back for updates on the premiere preview of NYP Prep, airing at tomorrow at 10pm, preceded by The Real Housewives of New Jersey reunion special at 9 pm ET/PT on Bravo.
Oh, dear. We could almost hear the Kristen Bell voiceover when the news broke that someone was shopping around a tape featuring Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester in the altogether, frolicking with her then-boyfriend. Yep, someone’s got a sex tape, and it looks like soon all the world will be able to see it.
This brings up several questions for us:
1. Oh, Leighton. We love you, girl, and support your right to have whatever kind of fun with whichever friend you may wish. But why, why would you have that fun on camera? Call us prudish, but we can’t quite figure out why anyone who ever even contemplates a career in public life would set foot in the same room with a video camera — much less strip down for one. You’ve got to know the danger is high that someday, some “friend” might try to make a few bucks on it.
2. And what sort of “friend” does something like this, anyway? Look, what consenting adults do for fun in the privacy of their own home/apartment/hotel room/vacation villa/whatever is no one’s business but theirs. Making money off someone’s private sexy fun time is pretty low.
3. Are there really sex tapes anymore? With digital video cameras, aren’t they more like sex cards, or sex thumb drives?
4. What are the odds that a similar scenario will make it into the script on Gossip Girl next season? And which character(s) do you think would star in that particular opus? Chuck’s a natural choice, of course, but would there really be any scandal there? Half of New York — and a good portion of the international jet set — has seen Chuck’s naughty bits!
What’s your take on the whole situation? Are you shocked, shocked! that such a thing would emerge, or is it just another day, another naked video? Talk about it in the comments!

Ed Westwick is a “little more secure and less destructive” than his Gossip Girl character Chuck Bass, especially when it comes to dealing with gossip. When asked by E! News to name the craziest rumor about himself, the 21 year-old actor reveals that it has something to do with putting on a little weight.
“That I’m fat!” Westwick exclaimed. “It was something like ‘the wardrobe department on Gossip Girl has to keep changing his clothes due to his expanding waistline.’ It’s ludicrous!”
Despite the buzz surrounding his body, Westwick wasn’t worried about showing off some skin when he hit the pool at the Mondrian hotel with Gossip Girl costar Jessica Szohr, who is also rumored to be his girlfriend. And according to an onlooker, “he dazzled the crowd with his amazing body.”
Since joining Gossip Girl, Westwick has earned quite a solid following while his exposure on TV has caught the attention of many filmmakers. While playing the teen drama’s resident bad boy, he has also been cast in movies such as Son of Rambow, 100 Feet, S. Darko, and the upcoming film Wuthering Heights as lead character Heathcliff.
During the weekend, Westwick picked up an award for Male Breakthrough Performance at Hollywood Life’s 11th Annual Young Hollywood Awards, held in Santa Monica, proving that he has grown to be adored by not only by his fans but by his fellow actors as well.
On Sunday, June 21, Ed Westwick and Jessica Szohr will both be presenting at the the MuchMusic Video Awards in Canada, according to hiphossip.com.
“The MMVAs is a star-gazer’s dream, with ultimate fan access from start to finish,” said Sheila Sullivan, director of programming, Much MTV Group, CTV Inc. “The craziness of the arrivals, the energy and shrieks from the fans, and their sheer proximity to the stars is what makes the MMVAs red carpet unlike any other red carpet in the world.”
